Braunschweig. Octavo. Item #028003
The first volume is 178 pages and is reproduced from the author's typescript of his family history. They were based in Braunscheig who worked in theatre, travelling through Saxony and Thuringen. Most of this is family history written in fairly simple German. The second volume contains 350 pages and begins with his entry into the German Army and its progress through Poland and into Russia. He speaks of General Rechnagel who was highly decorated (and assassinated by Polish partisans in January 1945). It is mostly interesting in terms of a young man with only a basic education who is able to give thorough accounts of his life in a family devoted to theatre, his time in the war, and his life after the war. At the end of the volume there is a pastedown on the death of Heinz-Ludwig Probst (1907-1986) who was a native of Braunschweig and a friend of the family. Bound in stiff gray card backed in black binder's tape, some finger soiling to covers. A very good set.
