London: Printed for Jacob Tonson, 1735. 12mo. Item #027993
94 pages, title page in red and black, (1) full page engraving. Anne Righter notes that in She Wou'd if she Cou'd, that Etherege chartered the basic dimensions of restoration comedy. It was when first previewed in 1668 considered a very bawdy play. It was one of the major plays on marriage discord. In real life, Etherege and John Wilmot both fathered daughters by a well-known actress of the day. The movie, The Libertine is based on that relationship. Bound in a modern light brown paneled calf, flat spine decoratively stamped in gilt, dark brown leather label gilt. A lovely binding. [ESTC T048025].
