Graham on bifolium format notes: "I have placed in this bank 1600 dollars for the state tax due at this time of one-half of one per cent of 320,000 dollars, the Capital Stock of this bank actually subscribed 8000 shares in the said capital shares of Forty dollars as stated in my letter of 3 November last." The State Bank of Newark was established on January 28, 1812. There was a controversy in 1834 that led to the publication: "Memorial of the citizens of Union Township, Essex Co, New Jersey against the removal of the deposites [sic] and in favor of the recharter of the Bank of the United States". The document, folded, with postal stamp and partial red wax seal, dated Jan 6, Newark.
