xxiv, 277 pages, the first volume of the first collected edition with the complete text of Wieland and the 24 memoir of Charles Brockden Brown. Brown is considered the father of the gothic novel that influenced Mary Shelley and others. The last complete set of his works published by Goodrich in 1827 were sold in 1991 at auction. Bound in ¾ brown calf over marbled paper covered boards, double black morocco spine labels gilt, decorated in gilt within three compartments. Front free endpaper with a closed tear at gutter, damp staining to free-endpaper and title page, rear board has a couple of short spits through endpapers but not through bindings. A very good copy.
