It was said of him, he was too liberal to be A Whig but his own class detested his radical ideas. He entered Parliament two years before the overthrow of Napoleon in 1813. As a major statesman in England, he would argue for local self-government which was defeated in his era. A very good set bound in maroon cloth centrally stamped in gilt with his coat-of-arms, spine lettering gilt, light occasional scattered foxing, corners bumped or worn some soiling to spines.
