Half-title, portrait frontispiece, xvi, 413 pages. After beginning with the Colonial Service, this work deals with the Napoleonic Wars, 1803-1818. It was at the start of that era that the resumption of the Highland Dress took place. It also deals with the Loss of the Abercrombie-Robinson and Birkenhead. Many illustrations of the leaders from Duncan Campbell on to the death of G.K.J. Goff who was killed at Magersfortein. The maps of Spain and Portugal in 1808 include the battles in South Africa as well as the colonial struggles in the period 1899-1901. Bound in green cloth centrally stamped in gilt depicting a wild boar, and with an "L" and crown to upper left, spine lettering gilt, corners bumped, spine ends appear to have been repaired(?) A very good copy.
