London: Henry G. Bohn, 1848. Quarto. Item #027562

Frontispiece,[3]pp. list of maps, references of the battle of Blenheim and references to battle of Malplauet. [4] full page engravings of Marlborough’s arms and [7]pp. facsimile letters, along with 17 hand-colored maps of which 6 are full page (one was carefully mounted), the remaining are medium to large folding maps. The list of plates and references for the Battles of Blehheim and Malplaquet are very detailed, not only on the major battles but several of the important issues pertaining to the battles. John Churchill was the first Duke of Marlborough and William Coxe who had been tutor to the Duke's eldest son wrote the memoirs. The maps first appeared in 1820 but were expanded and hand-colored in this edition in 1848. A handsome copy beautifully bound in a modern ¾ polished calf over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers. Raised bands with compartments stamped in gilt, double spine labels gilt. Very nicely done.
