New York; (1985): Random House. First Edition. Octavo. Item #027521
First printing. 337 pages. Perhaps the greatest novel of the past fifty years (see Harold Bloom) but its violence has assaulted the senses as was the first response of Bloom. Later in the Modern Library edition he wrote a preface praising its richness. Before calling it excessive in violence, the reader must read more on Glanton and Samuel Chamberlain's My Confession. A fine bright copy bound in 1/4 red cloth over red paper covered boards, spine lettering in gilt with red rules, two very tiny spots to front board, in a fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket.
