Catalogue of the Important Collection of Silver coins of China and the Colony of Hong Kong Forded By W. Von Halle
London, (1967): The Asiatic Numismatic Society. Small Quarto. Item #027496
41 pages with 10 plates of the coins from Halle's magnificent collection. The 626 lots of the collection are listed here in the auction conducted by Glendining of London. This was the most extensive sale held ever in England and until the Kann sale in 1971 was probably the largest such sale held anywhere in the world. The cataloging was done by D.J. Crowther. Little is known of the collector but he had purchased pieces from the Wayte Raymond collection from Glendining in November of 1963. This is one of the few issued in a special recover reprint with text, plates and prices realized. The reprint rights were purchased from Sidney Frey (1921-1968), who in the previous year had purchased the rights to and reprinted the Kann catalog. There were no gold coins in the auction but a number of patterns in pewter, copper and other metals. The prices are given in British pounds (there were no buyers fee in those days), which at the time was worth U.S. 2.79. The only known copy of the catalogue is in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. Bound in red cloth lettered in silver, spine lettering silver, original paper wraps bound in. A fine copy.
