In 1715, he published, Histoire des plantes which is the first edition of the local flora of the Provenance. It includes an account of the history of botany in France and a 47 page critical dictionary of botanical authors and painters. which describes 1,400 plants. In the preface, he writes about the history of botany in Provence and the medicinal uses of plants. R.L. Plates are numbered irregularly since Garidel advised the bookbinder to disregard the number and arrange plates alphabetically after specific sections. All the plates are present plus the rare frontispiece signed (in plate) by A. Boisson. 90 of the plates are signed (in plate)by Honore Blanc, a goldsmith and engraver of Aix. which is bound in reverse in this volume. Our plates collates the same as the copy in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid but their’s lacks the frontispiece. A beautiful, clean bright copy bound in a full brown leather decoratively stamped in blind, red leather spine label gilt, other compartments fully decorated in blind, all edges marbled, endpapers renewed. An exceptionally nice copy.
