Washington: Smithsonian Institution Libraries, 1860. Octavo. Item #027403
70 pages. unopened. The work was originally drawn up by Prof. Guyot and issued in 1850 but was reprinted with additions by Joseph Henry, the Secretary of the Smithsonian institution. His added notes indicate how quickly the role of scientific observation was overtaking conventional ideas before the explosion of knowledge after the mid-19th century. Bound in original wraps printed in black, some light toning or staining to wrapper with small sticker to upper right corner of front wrap, some light scattered foxing. A very nice copy.
