Hornsea, UK; (2015): The Pulps Library. First PS Edition. Octavo. Item #027342
109 pages, illustrated by Pete Von Sholly with an introduction by S.T. Joshi. As Joshi notes: "The Whisperer in Darkness" was one of the most difficult of Lovecraft tales to write. The last page of the handwritten manuscript tells part of the story: Begun Providence, R.I., Feb. 2, 1930. Completed September 26, 1930. Ramsey Campbell has written a nice foreword noting his interactions with Clark Ashton Smith and August Derleth but following his own projectory of what even at the time was viewed as a weird imagination. A great part of the work of Lovecraft in this new edition. He had a visit to Brattleboro, Vermont in 1928 where the dark landscape where he stayed gave him the setting for the images in this work. A fine bright copy bound in color pictorial glossy paper covered boards in matching dust jacket. Very nice.
