329 pages, index. The author was Professor of Geology and Paleontology at the University of Michigan. He concludes there is an overall plan of an omnipotent and omniscience Being (p. 311). His book Adamites and Preadamites: or, A Popular Discussion (1878) showed also he had a racist interpretation which even at the time was considered troubling.
