[Lakewood, CO.]: Centipede Press, 2019. Limited Edition. Tall Octavo. Item #027311

246 pages. This is number 276 in a limited edition of 300 copies, and signed by those helped in making this one of the most beautiful copies with frontispiece art by Jim Burns and the cover and endpaper art by John Anthony Di Giovanni (both of whom have signed this copy). The introduction by Malcolm Edwards begins with an old manuscript entitled The Book of Skulls in a remote part of the Arizona desert where a community known as "the Brotherhood" but soon we learn there is more to these men who previously were thought to be mortals. Considered perhaps the best of Silverberg's works, it was part of the New Wave of Sci-Fi that haunted readers many of whom for the first time realize the richness in that genre. Bound in black cloth stamped in blind, spine lettering silver. A fine copy in fine pictorial dust jacket.
