. 96 pages, (4) pp. publoisher's ads, drama in German. Sophie Godden was a major force in the women's movement. She wrote this play while still in Germany. She met her husband Dr. Bernard C. Gudden in Germany and returned to his native Oshkosh, Wisconsin where she was to spend her last thirty-four years. She crusaded for equal pay for women which passed into law in the state as well as women's suffrage. She entertained the English suffragists Mrs. Pankhurst and Mrs. Snowden as well as Jane Addams of Hull House in Chicago. She became Vice-President of the National Consumers league and while an invalid maintained a correspondence with many noted writers. Laid in this book is a diary note from April 14, 1914 with the note: "I was surprised most pleasantly last evening by receiving from Mrs. Gudden her "Famielienfestspiele". I can hardly take in the honor bestowed. Several other related items laid in. A fine bright copy bound in original green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, housed in a fine slipcase of three-quarter green morocco over cloth covered boards and cloth chemise.
