Richard Hayes was an English mathematician whose most important works were on calculating interest and annuities upon lives based on early statistics . He also published The Young Merchant's Assistant ( 1718 ) and Negotiators' Magazine; or the Exchange Anatomized ( 1719 ) but this small volume was the standard for the London business man who with it could calculate interest with a quick glance and the mathematical formula on large transactions. A very good copy bound in full calf double ruled in gilt,, raised bands ruled in gilt, front free endpaer nearly detached and stamped Cornwell House.
