Theodore Casimir Roussel (1847-1926) was a French-born English painter and graphic artist, best known for his landscapes and genre scenes. His painting "the reading girl" was a full-size nude and shocked contemporary society though later it became recognized as one of the best in the period. He was befriend by Whistler who also showed him how to do drypoint. It also includes Agnes Ethel Mackay's comments on his work. Includes bibliographic references (pages 235-236) appendices also on museum numbers and index. A fine bright copy bound in green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, spine lettering gilt, housed in publisher's cloth covered slipcase.
