Our Judicial Oligarchy, with an Introduction by Robert M. LaFollette

New York: Huebsch, 1912. First Edition. Octavo. `. Item #027020

239 pages, index. One of the most significant attacks on how courts usurp party. He called for a movement to recall judges. Roscoe Pound called this a "revived Rousseauist political-legal philosophy". Virtually every law journal reviewed this work within a few years, and it ranks today as a significant approach in the issue of the role of the judiciary in endangering the American democracy. It has been reprinted but original editions are uncommon. While the original owner, a layman Henry Slotter of Lakeport, California has written extensive comments on the endpapers and the preliminaries, he did not underline or make any notes in the text, he did however stamp his name on title page. Bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt in chipped and worn printed dust jacket which had the flaps glued down.
