When Edmond Haley began to calculate issues of mortality, he was in the forefront of simple calcuations. Gael Morris, a writer of commercial manuals on annuities and leases put in book form this small volume which explained that annuities could frequently be purchase chaper on lives aged between 30 and 40 since lives under 25 experienced more hazards. He recognized that the risks were greater in the 15-25 level. The work was considered controversial due to the proposed fall in rent in relation to age, which was seen as a discrimination against young people; a concept which today has been implemented in virtually all aspects of banking and insurance.
