,  and one original etching by Besnard bound in, and 202 pages of illustrations with identifying text of his finest etchings and paintings. Besnard won the Prix de Rome in 1874. He was soon influenced by the Impressionist and devoted himself to the study of color and light. His themes often involved death as well as lovers and exquisite nudes, He became the director of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1922 and two years before his death his major works were exhibited in the major museums of the United States. Bound in 3/4 blue cloth over blue marbled paper covered boards, black leather spine label gilt, marbled endpapers, original decorative wrappers bound into front and rear. A very nice copy with just a bit of scattered foxing to margins of etching.
