This copy has the tabs on the fore-edge for easy reference to all the officers (Admirals and Commodores, etc., includes acting officers, deserters, dishonorable discharged and those who died or were killed in 1864. Beginning on page 229, it list all the Officers of Navy Yards, Shore Stations and Vessels. Then, there are list of squadrons with the entire crew of officers, engineers, chaplains, etc. It not only lists all vessels but vessels captured, destroyed and sold. The index lists everyone of the thousands who were either in the Navy or Marines including dates, promotions, and which ships or facilities where they were deployed. Bound in full black pebble grained morocco, boards trimmed in a floral gilt roll, lettering gilt, flat spine lettered, ruled and decorated in gilt, all edges marbled, indexed with gilt lettered leather tabs, internally clean without foxing, names or plates.
