Autographed Letter Signed to Fellow Astronomer

1802. Item #025950

1 page letter on stationary imprinted Observatory, Cambridge measuring 4 1/2" x 7". While some regarded Ball as one of the greatest British mathematicians of his generation, it was his books on The Theory of Screws (1876, 1900) that established his reputation though he also wrote extensively on astronomy. His longtime friend Sir William Huggins and his wife published An Atlas of Representative Stellar Spectra (1899), a volume aimed at establishing Huggins as the pre-eminent authority in the field of stellar spectroscopy. Here is a delightful letter from Sir Robert Ball to his friend and Sir Williams Huggins whose name now was in the Order of Merit.
