xvi, 440 pages, [8] publisher‘s ads. Besides a nice engraved title page, the frontispiece and 14 other full page plates along with many in text illustrations made this one of the most important books for the medical professional. The American Medical Association reviewed in October of its year of publication and declared it essential. Jabez Hoff went on to write scholarly articles on the microscope for the next 40 years. Bound in publisher’s dark olive green embossed cloth centrally stamped in gilt depicting a microscope and title, spine lettering gilt, yellow endpapers, occasional spots of foxing, early owner’s name dated 1880, corners only slightly bumped.
