. 76 pages, color frontispiece, pastedown cover shows two bare knuckled boxers (note: in the short story, Doyle has them fighting with boxing gloves and following the Queensbury rules] . It was made into a 1921 silence film where a young Welsh medical student enters the boxing ring to fight for a £200 prize which will enable him to establish his own practice. The Victorian era made heroes of those who exercised what were called "the manly virtues". Bound light brown pictorial cloth lettered and decorated in black, green and white, spine plain, some edge wear to the cover illustration. A very good copy.
