The Renaissance Studies in Art and Poetry

xi, 304 pages. Limited to 700 copies. Walter Pater provided a rich view of the art, literature and philosophy of the Renaissance. He argued that the rich iconography rooted in Greek sculpture was more fully developed there than when first produced. He gives attention not only to Sandro Botticelli and Luca della Robbia and Michelangelo but also Pico della Mirandola. Originally the work was published under the title: Studies in the history of the Renaissance but as critics noted his profound insights were almost entirely in the art and culture of the era. A fine bright copy bound in light green paper covered baords, raised bands, spepr spine label lettered in red and black, housed in green cloth chemise and slipcase.
