Below inscription is previous owner's "Maud Yale's book, it was she who first took you to the Natural History Museum at the University." Gilbert White was a pioneer in asking people to see the environment as a way of scientific understanding. Selborne became more than what was called as that "out-of-the-way" village but rather the way in which the wider English public learned to study nature. Bound in red cloth lettered ad ruled in white, spine lettering white but faded, some soiling or staining to cloth, spine faded, some scattered foxing. A good copy.
