Twilight of the U.S. Cavalry Life in the Old Army, 1917-1942

(Lawrence, Kansas1989): University of Kansas. First Edition. Octavo. Item #025195

First printing. 198pp., index. A work that captures the last days of the pre-mechanized life in the U.S. Cavalry. The author (and later George C. Marshall) saw the failure of Maj. Gen. John K. Herr who fought the idea that tanks might replace horses. In the days when the cavalry was in the Western posts, they kept in condition with horsemanship, hunting, and a life where yogurt and exercise machines were not known. Allan R. Millet writes: "Truscott catches the spirit of the U.S. Cavalry, a spirit that survived the change of steeds.". Bound in yellow cloth, spine lettering black. A fine copy in fine pictorial dust jacket.

Price: $35.00
