He was Director of the Dresden State Archives but his personal energy was directed toward producing scholarly articles and books dealt with ancient Greece ranging from the political and its arts as well as its implications for education. This was his first major book and dealt with the Amphictyons (i.e., the deputies from the various city-states of ancient Greece that comprised a Council. These confederations failed but they were attempts to have some sort of unity especially with the fear of Sparta's growth. Bound in ¼ blue-gray cloth over green marbled paper covered boards, spine lettering gilt, scattered foxing. Very good copy.
