10 pages, John Ashton was an official in the royal household and Jacobite conspirator who in 1688 lent James II's government 12,500 pounds but he distributed money for the Jacobian plot and he was captured at Dover in 1690 and he was linked to the plot to restore Richard Graham, Viscount Preston as James's secretary of state. He was tried on January 19, 1691 and found guilty but instead of facing the crueler parts of the death sentence, he merely died by hanging. Some toning and staining.
