He had drawn a full-page watercolor picture of Hemingway and had written on the black, "Death in the Afternoon/changed my life/shaped my life/ and almost cost/me my life" Barnaby Conrad/May 2004. Hemingway became his idol when he first read this book at 17. He had also painted a bullfighting scene in watercolor to the following page and inscribed it to a close friend. And, the last page he had drawn a bull in pen and ink. A fine copy bound in full black leather with Hemingway's name in gilt on upper board, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, housed within a marbled paper covered slipcase with opening trimmed in leather and line in a soft felt.
