Gene Kloss Etchings

Santa Fe, NM (1981): Sunstone Press. First Edition. Quarto. Item #024141

192 pp. signed by both Gene and Phillips Koss, illustrated in black and white. When the Klosses' first moved to Taos, Gene brought with her a sixty-pound etching press which was cemented to a large rock in their camp in Taos Canyon. Gene developed a technique in etching which she calls "painting", applying acid directly on the plate with fine Japanese brushes or pencils, thus developing a quality for which her work is known; subtle tones, grades of dark, bright halos of white that seem impossible to achieve in her chosen medium. Her work has a quality that can only be described as masterful. A fine copy bound in light brown cloth lettered in gilt, spine gilt, in a fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket lettered in black with just a hint of toning to spine.
