Imaginary Burden
[Sherman Oaks, California, 1990]: Ninja Press (Carolee Campbell). Limited Edition. Item #024139
Limited to 137 copies. The present copy is #97 and signed by the author. 9 leaves measuring 9 ½" x 4 ¼". Ninja Press evolved from an idea and had become an important and respected artist-run private press whose work is exhibited and collected widely by both private collectors and by numerous institutions. Ninja Press's books are centered on contemporary poetry. Campbell founded Ninja Press in 1984. She works alone, designing each of the books that she herself often illustrates, sets in type by hand, and prints letterpress. Many of the books and keepsakes are artifacts of the intersection of fine paper, letterpress, and meticulous printing, bound accordion-style in printed red paper boards, with kozo kusaki & kyosei papers handmade at the Fuji Paper Mills Cooperative in Tokushima, Japan of which are no longer available. This work was dedicated to Harry and Sandra Reese. Reese taught print, papermaking, book art, and media ecology at UC Santa Barbara from 1978 to 2018. With his partner, Sandra Liddell Reese. Reese produced limited edition books and prints at their Turkey Press. A fine copy.
