Frontispiece, and other illustrations, 114 pp. Duvall discusses in his journal his descriptions of Fremont, Stockton, Sutter, General Vallejo and his family Dr. Marsh, Merritt, and Neal. He gives an outstanding narrative of the Portsmouth's launch to Fremont with supplies, of Sutter's establishment, of the Berryesa and Haro killings and the battle of Santa Clara. He makes no mention of his professional services on shipboard but does tell of those provided elsewhere. A handsome copy bound in maroon cloth pictorially stamped in silver of a sailing ship, spine lettering gilt, bookplate of previous owner the editor inscribed too. Near fine in original clear acetate dust jacket with small tear near head.
