. Frontispiece, 399 pp., (1) pp. publisher's ad. Illustrated with 11 plates. There were plans for escape, arrival of prisoners, with numerous and varied incidents and anecdotes of prison life. Prepared from the author's daily journal to which is added as full sketches of other prisons as can be given without repetition of the above, by parties who have been confined therein. This work was sold by agents only. On page 399 there is a want ad: Agents Wanted. The publisher wanted to make sure this book was reached every man woman and child. The publisher then discusses payments. A very good copy bound in brown cloth, both boards highly decorated in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, light scattered foxing, light wear to corners. A very handsome copy with just a bit of fading to spine.
