Limited to 900 copies (800 copies for sale). 100pp. with an introduction, notes and bibliography by E.I. Edwards illustrated with photographic images. Lieutenants Couts and Whipple had an assignment of running the new international boundary line in the vicinity of the Gila and Colorado rivers and in accordance with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This boundary was considered one of the most difficult to do. Lt. Couts adventure had already been published. Lt. Whipple's report was buried in a maze of government documents and never published. It had been decided to publish his edition as this limited edition and considered a most valuable work. A fine bright copy bound in brown cloth pictorially stamped in blind, spine lettering gilt, in a near fine pale green unclipped dust jacket lettered and decorated in brown and black, spine lettering black, very tiny chip to upper edge of rear panel and some toning to edges. A very nice crisp copy.
