Frontispiece of the Frigate Constitution, 263pp., the Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world today, first launched in 1797. This work is illustrated showing the Frigate at sea, its canons, it's battles and tells all the circumstances which had an influence upon her design, construction, and employment are given. The principal authorities for the whole career of the Constitution are the American State Papers, the ship's logbooks, the reports of commanding officers and various biographies. A very good copy bound in green cloth centrally stamped in gilt depiction the Constitution on the sea, spine lettering gilt, light wear to spine ends and corners, top edge gilt, some offsetting to front endpapers, from the private library of Rawson Bennett who was a naval officer.
