Venice: Bompiani, 1996. First Edition. Thick Quarto. Item #023340
799pp., beautifully illustrated in color and in black and white. This work is the fourteenth exhibition on the Greeks in the West. This book documents and presents the work that was carried out by and for Palazzo Grassi with the aim of collecting and demonstrating those masterpieces that an original Greek culture was able to express in the new settlements on the peninsula. The are works that could speak for themselves without the need for illustration, such is the emotional charge that they possess, expressing that ideal of classicism that all Western civilization would not be able to give up. This exhibition and the studies that preceded it made it possible to demonstrate. A very nice fine copy bound in beige cloth, dark brown paper labels gilt to spine and upper board, original stiff pictorial wraps bound in. An exceptionally nice copy. Very heavy at 8 pounds and overseas shipping will cost more.
