33 hand colored plates drawn and engraved by Canu. This book was prepared by a collector using a printer and binder to tip in each hand colored plate depicting the French royal guardes, mostly on beautiful horses against scenery. Canu was one of the esteemed engravers used for Didert's Encyclopédie, Dictionnaire Raisonné des Sciences. Plates are clean with just a few with a smudge or spot. Beautifully bound in full black morocco elaborately trimmed in a decorative gilt design, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. housed in a custom cloth covered slipcase.
