A Russian Journal

New York: The Viking Press, 1948. First Edition. Octavo. Item #023198

220pp., illustrated with photographic images by Robert Capa. Steinbeck and Capa decide to travel to Russia. While ordinary people as well as experts were telling each other all about Stalin's plans and communist intentions, one was trying to find out what the millions of human beings in the U.S.S.R. were really like as people. They travelled throughout Russia but spent most of their time traveling through small cities and countrysides such as Ukraine and the Caucasus. Visiting people from all walks of life; workers in factories, peasants in the fields, farmers and more. They eventually find how they lived and what they think. A fine copy bound in 1/4 cream cloth over light blue cloth lettered in dark blue, spine lettering in dark blue, in a very good unclipped pictorial dust jacket with wear to corners and spine ends, one small, closed edge tear to rear panel.
