Scruggles died just as the last pages were written. James had at one time, or another visited all the missions in California James states that much of his work had been taken from Bancroft's work by selecting, rearranging, and bringing it together for convenient use. A fine copy save for a little off-setting to front end sheets from an old clipping once laid in. Bound in green pictorial gilt cloth depicting a mission, spine lettering gilt. An exceptionally nice copy.
