Published anonymously but attributed to Phillips. A second volume was published in 1798. Contains an interesting but short biographical account of Jacques-Pierre Brissot who proposed an ambitious military plan to spread the Revolution internationally, therefore the Girondins, also called Brissotins, under the leadership of Brissot, supported foreign war to unite the people behind the cause of the Revolution. Bound by Zahnsdorf in full red polished double ruled in gilt, raised bands gilt, compartments pictorially stamped in gilt, red morocco spine label gilt and chipped, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. From the library of Walter L. Darling with his bookplate. Some rubbing to upper joint, spine a bit darkened. A very good copy.
