First issue according to Smith. Portrait frontispiece of Mr. Dickens, engraved vignette title page and regular title page, illustrated with 12 other engravings by S.L. Fildes. This would be the last book ever written by Charles Dickens and left unfinished because he had had a stroke and died the following day. The story was never finished but was published. There were several who had written their own ending. Bound in 3/4 red Morocco over red pebble grained cloth, decorative gilt roles to both boards, raised bands gilt, compartments lettered and fully gilt decorated, marbled endpapers, all edges marble, From the library of Terence Francis Carmody and Henry B. Hearn. four very small, closed tears to the outer margins of pages 72-79, minor scattered foxing to first and last few leaves, internally clean, joints and corners rubbed. A very good copy.
