Portrait frontispiece, engraved title page and regular title page, illustrated xxiv, 198pp., and 207pp. with portrait of the author and 82 other full page plates of which 2 are hand colored and 30 vignettes on India paper mounted and other textual illustrations or vignettes. Volume two gives ends with chapter 13, the a full description of ther plats, and explanations of the Vignettes, appendix 1 and 2. Bound in full red straight grained morocco decorated in gilt, rebacked with original gilt decorated spine laid down, all edges gilt, renewed endpapers, the first three pages of volume one with scattered foxing, internally mostly clean with ocassional spots of foxing, previous owner's name dated Christmas, 1882. A very good set of this important work.
