Volume I: limited to 3000 copies, 233pp. Volume II: limited to 2000 copies, 297pp. Beautifully Illustrated in color and in black and white. A history of Mexico, as seen through the eyes of several important authors and artists' with beautiful illustrations of their work in 19th century Mexico. As an example, Daniel Thomas Egerton, was a British landscape painter. While in Mexico, he painted magnificent sceneries, several are displayed in full color in volume I. He eventually died in Mexico. In volume II, one will find works by John Phillips who worked as an illustrator in the first edition of Punch, and the illustrated London News. Several other important artist and authors' works will be found within these volumes. Volume one includes a bibliography and at the end of both books, is a list of the plates along with a description. Both volumes bound in brown cloth stamped in blind, spine lettering in blind. A bit of bubbling to cloth on volume I, volume II is fine, both in fine pictorial dust jackets. A handsome and important set.
