Field Exercise and Evolutions of the Army

London: William Clowes, 1824. Octavo. Item #022453

Revised by the present author upon King's orders. xvi, 335pp., including index, (12) folding plates. The King had decided since it had been over 33 years, it was time to update General Sir David Dundas' System of Tactics as it was due for improvements. It was a time of peace and therefore, it was deemed necessary to take advantage of reestablishing uniformity by prescribing to the Army a more regulated system. It also contains an updated (4)pp. of musical scores of the bugle sounds. These changes would combine Dundas' work along with additional formations. These improvements would be followed by all in the Army. A very clean bright copy without foxing, a bit of off-setting to edges of title page from binder's glue or the leather turn-ins. Bound in full contemporary diced calf, rebacked with original spine laid down retaining original endpapers, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, upper corners of both boards is missing a small patch of leather, wear to corners, lacks ads. A very good copy.

Price: $350.00
