1802: C. Roworth (printer) T. Egerton, Military Bookseller. First Edition. Quarto. Item #022429
Half-title, frontispiece, 354pp. with three fine hand colored maps; The Western Branch of the Nile, Alexandria and Rahmanie in Egypt along with three charts(one folding) showing the state of the British Army. The author was not an historian but a Lieutenant Colonel of the Cavalry in his Majesty's service and knight of the imperial military order of Maria Theresa. Since there were no historians to write the history of this war, the author took it upon himself to write this "journal" to present to the people how their men fought and died in the war. Bound in contemporary calf, raised bands ruled in gilt, newer morocco spine label gilt, tape mend to underside of one map, wide margined without foxing with the exception of page 291 at upper margin, and a few minor spots to another handful of pages and a bit of off-setting to endpapers from binder's glue, and off-setting to title page from portrait frontispiece, a nice early repair to head. From the library of Murray Bart. of Auchtertyre "In Bello Quies" A lovely copy.
