He writes about his childhood, and leaving home at the age of 14 along with his brother. They got their first job cutting railroad ties in the southeastern part of Texas. Theophilus had acquired many jobs along his travels, met many important people, found himself in many unlikely situations, including jail during the civil war. An interesting history of a man from childhood to adulthood traveling the country and other parts of the world. Bound in maroon cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and blind, spine lettering gilt, just a few spots of rubbing, near fine without names or bookplates.
