Because of his fine work, he traveled the world, and had an adventurous life filled with kings, maharajas, industrialists and more. He began his work at age 15 and over the years he purchased and fashioned some of the finest rough diamonds ever discovered including the Jonker, the Taylor-Burton, the Star of Sierra Leone just to name a few. He is perhaps best known for donating the notorious Hope diamond to the Smithsonian Institution as a gift to the American people. These stories and more reveal some of the ironic twists of fate in the lives of the men and women who pursued these fabulous gems.
