London: John Murray, 1851. Small Octavo. Item #022325
360pp., with numerous woodcuts, abridged by him from his larger work. In this abridgment he had omitted the second part of the original work, introducing the principal Biblical and historical illustrations into the narrative, which he believed to be more useful and complete. Bound in 3/4 brown pebble grained morocco over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, contemporary owner's name and armorial bookplate dated 1852, Alfred Gathorne Hardy, a member of Parliament and author of "Autumns in Argyle with Rod and Gun". A very nice copy.
