Erotic fore-edge painting. 134pp. 17(1)pp. ads at rear, four engravings. A traditional 18th-century survey in heroic couplets of human affairs. It went through four editions within a year. The poem opens with a comparison between the beauty of remote objects in a landscape and those ideal scenes of felicity which the imagination delights to contemplate....the influence of anticipation upon the other passions is next delineated. Bound in full green straight grained morocco trimmed in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, some foxing to frontispiece and just a bit of foxing to other plates. Internally clean and bright. A very handsome copy.
